Emily Deller had a day to remember as she celebrated her centenary earlier this month.
Blitz survivor Emily, who has lived in the borough her whole life, marked the occasion at Chestnut Court Care Home, Frizlands Lane with her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Emily lost her home and belongings when Barking was bombed, but moved to Howard Road with her husband Bob and raised daughters Pat and Linda.
Granddaughter Natasha Phillips, 32, said: “She told me she didn’t feel 100 and it was all the grandchildren and children around her who made her feel old.
“She was not rich but she has always been happy living life, and even now she is a fighter.”
After Bob died, Emily moved to Longbridge Road, where she lived on her own then later she went into the home.
Natasha added: “She is still so strong at 100 and her brain is very sharp. The family love her to pieces and it’s an amazing achievement to reach this landmark.”
