COUNCIL leader Liam Smith has vowed to boycott the 2012 Olympics in fury at London Mayor Boris Johnson.
The councillor, who had hoped to see gymnastics and badminton or shooting events hosted in Barking and Dagenham, said Boris had betrayed the borough.
"I personally won't be watching a minute of the games," said Cllr Smith.
He claimed we were set to host gymnastics or badminton, until Boris said he wanted the shooting here as a cheaper option.
But Boris didn't fight for the shooting to come to the borough and now we have nothing.
Cllr Mick McCarthy put forward a motion expressing his disappointment at the Mayor of London's "retracted support to bring Olympic events to Barking and Dagenham".
The motion was passed.
