A Barking film studio is hosting a series of free workshops to celebrate women in film.

To mark 100 years since some women got the vote, Bluebird Pictures has been sponsored by Barking and Dagenham Council to create a documentary called Women and Activism.

From August, it will be hosting workshops and screenings to coincide with the documentary.

The first on August 18 will be a screenwriting session, looking at how female characters and writers are portrayed in film and on TV. It will be run by director, A D Cooper.

On September 14 there’ll be a practical directing workshop, exploring female directors and the female form using cameras.

The final workshop, on October 19, will include a preview of Women and Activism and a talk from the director on the editing process behind it.

Workshops are free to attend but donations can be made instead to Women’s Trust, a charity which helps domestic abuse survivors. Places are limited, so register to attend here.
