Barking man found injured near suspected murder victim

A man from Barking was found with head and chest injuries near the body of a man who was killed.

The victim in his 50s was discovered on a farm site in Ongar, Essex at around 9.30pm last Friday (September 7.)

He was taken to a nearby hospital and is currently in a stable condition.

A 39-year-old man called William Martindale was found on the same farm and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

A post-mortem showed that Mr Martindale, from Ongar, died from a head injury.

Paul Groves, 33, from Ongar, was charged with one count of murder and one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been held in custody and is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on December 3.

A 66-year-old man from Ongar was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has been released on police bail until October 26 pending further enquiries.
