A die-hard Soul II Soul fan met lead vocalist Caron Wheeler after striking up a friendship with the Back to Life singer on Facebook.

Rachael Silver, from Barking, is a vocal teacher who has taught the likes of Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson.

The 43-year-old has made an album, entitled ‘Songs from the Sofa’, which she sent it to her singing idol via Facebook.

To her surprise, Caron messaged her back, saying she liked Rachael’s music and inviting her to come backstage at a Soul II Soul concert when the band was next in London.

That gig was Kew the Music, which took place on Saturday (13), and Rachael went along tentatively, not confident that everything could go as well as planned.

“It felt like a bit of a dream,” she said. “She is one of my heroes.”

After watching Soul II Soul perform, Rachael was able to nip backstage and grab a few minutes of Caron’s time before the band left.

She said: “She was really lovely and so down to earth. She gave me a hug and let us take pictures and she said to keep in touch. It was really quick but it was amazing.”
