Giant inflatables and water zorbs are being introduced to the Barking Splash Park.

The former Barking Park Lido site will open for the Summer season on May 25.

New attractions include the popular water zorbs - giant inflatable balls that allow you to run along inside them.

It will be open at weekends during term-time and every day during the school holidays.

A council spokesperson said: “Although the warm weather we were all enjoying a few weeks ago seems to have once again disappeared, Barking Splash Park will be open and ready to provide lots of child-friendly fun as soon as the sun decides to come back out to play.”

The wet play area opened one year ago following a £3.5million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund Urban Parks programme.

Barking Park is the borough’s oldest park and dates back to Victorian times, and the lido had been left derelict since 1988.

The splash park’s design incorporates two of the original 1930s water fountains.
