Teachers at a comprehensive in Barking are “ecstatic” after scooping a prestigious literacy prize for the third consecutive year.
Eastbury Comprehensive School won English Team of the year at the TES Schools Awards, recognising not only their 80 per cent A*-C pass rate for GCSE English Language, but also their efforts in fostering student’s passion for the subject, through theatre visits, drama sessions and workshops.
“We’re absolutely ecstatic that we’ve won English Team of the Year once again, which is incredibly important to our area, an area of high English-as-an-additional-language learners, so this is a huge accolade to us when it comes to English literacy for our students,” said Anita Ark, acting head of English at the school.
Winners attended a black-tie event in London, hosted by comedian Greg Davies, recognising 17 different category winners.
