DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE boss John Still has laughed off reports surfacing that last season's top scorer Paul Benson was the subject of a 150,000 bid from League One Gillingham, writes MIKE SIMMONDS.

"It's absolute rubbish," said the boss, who recently moved to bring Hayes & Yeading striker John Scott to the club.

"We are known for bringing young players to the club and giving them a chance, so that is what we have done with Josh.

"We now have 'Benno', Josh, Jon Nurse, and also Wesley Thomas, who has looked sharp since he has come back."

One striker who won't be starting the new season is Mark Nwokeji, as the former Staines man is out with injury.

"He picked up this problem last season, and it looks like it is going to be longer rather than shorter," admitted Still, who also confirmed that Leatherhead keeper Chris Lewington is training with the club.

"He is with us at the moment and will train during the pre-season, where we will have a good look at him."
