Mayor of London Boris Johnson welcomed some of the city’s newest citizens to City Hall today.
Among the 32 new British citizens swearing an affirmation of allegiance to Queen Elizabeth II was Sauda Parvin, who has moved from Bangladesh to Barking and Dagenham.
Sauda said that since moving to the UK 11 years ago she has come to know London as her true home.
‘I moved to the UK 11 years ago because my husband is British and was working here,” she said. “Since then, I’ve had two children here, one of whom is now at school.
“I settled into my local community quickly, and London is truly my home now.
“There are so many different cultures here, and Barking and Dagenham is a really friendly borough.
“I feel very proud to have become a British citizen, and look forward to many more years in London.”
Boris Johnson welcomed the new citizens, adding diversity contributes to the capital’s economic and cultural strength.
