THE 2010 ABA Championship trail starts with a promising duel between England heavyweight rivals Wadi Camacho from Ilford and Dagenham BC prospect Robin Dupre, who look set to steal the show at the Dukes Hall, Hornchurch, on Friday night, writes LEN WHALEY.

'Macho Man' Camacho, trained at Canning Town's Peacock Gym, has a clear advantage in experience, and impressively won two out of three bouts with a Great Britain heavyweight team in the USA in October.

However, Dagenham's Dupre has also been an international winner, defeating Scottish rival Dave Drummond to clinch a memorable 4-3 win for England in November.

He has recovered from the eye injury which cost him his unbeaten record when he was forced to retire on the recent club show.

There is confidence in both camps in the build-up to the clash, with Dagenham official Danny O'Sullivan admitting 'Rockin' Robin will be the underdog in the clash, while highlighting his rival's weaknesses.

"We expect a real tough start to Robin's ABA campaign, and whilst we accept that the 'Macho Man' will start as a big favourite, we've got all the video footage we need to know where his weaknesses lay.

"We would never underestimate such a tall, strong and classy operator, but it's common knowledge that Wadi has been knocked-out twice on the international circuit.

"We expect Camacho to come out with all guns blazing, but Robin has shown his durability and always finishes very strongly.

"We know that this clash is as important as the National Final - either man can progress that far at least with this win."

Meanwhile, Camacho punched out a warning to his rivals his on the national title trail when he slammed a two-round win over Midland Counties rival Mark Brown, dropping him three times on the way.

His Peacock BC Coach Andre Olley said: "The win has sent Wadi up for his title bid - he's full of confidence - as usual."

West Ham name a six-strong entry list of club hopes looking to make their mark on the title trail, lead by classy England choice Dudley O'Shaughnessy, who battled through to the nationals finals in impressive style last year.

Other Hammers chasing honours on Friday night include light-flyweight Sean Hussain, Billy Morgan at bantamweight and Eddie Hussain at light-welterweight.

Tom Baker carries the Hammers hopes at light-middleweight, with Charlie Duffield their middleweight entry at the North East London Divisional title night.

The competition returns to the compact Dukes Hall, not York Hall, the traditional venue, but the tournament promises to provide some exciting action.

West Ham's old Bethnal Green rivals Repton line up their dozen-plus list of entries and there will be keen rivalry between all the opposition boxers.

The official weigh-in takes place from 4-6pm with the boxing due to start at 7pm.
