A TEENAGER was taken to hospital after being stabbed in the hip outside a children's centre.

The victim, from Newham, was attacked in North Street, Barking, outside the Abbey Children's Centre on Monday (January 7) at 3.45pm.

He suffered a single stab wound to the right hip. The boy was taken to hospital but his injuries are not described as life threatening.

No arrests had been made as the POST went to press yesterday morning (Tuesday).

Mike Haywood, assistant to Margaret Hodge MP who has her constituency office in North Street, said the road was cordoned off for about an hour.

An air ambulance landed in the field of Northbury School but the boy was eventually taken to hospital in a road ambulance.

Anyone with any information should contact Detective Constable Brett Hagen on (020) 8217 5569 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
