Budding Einsteins enjoy explosive afternoon at Barking Learning Centre

Youngsters enjoyed an explosively fun Saturday when a visiting workshop demonstrated the magic of science.
About 60 budding Einsteins took part in not-for-profit Bescience STEM’s free afternoon of experimentation in Barking Learning Centre, where they created everything from lemon-powered clocks to volcano eruptions using just baking soda and vinegar.
Project manager Mariam Ajibola organised the LibraryLAB project, which aims to bring fun science projects to libraries in underprivileged areas.
“It went really well, the kids seemed to really enjoy it,” reflected Mariam, who was helped by fellow project manager Agnes Betty Harding and a team of seven volunteers. “We try and make it as simple as we can, using stuff you can find in your kitchen.”
Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, Cllr Abdul Aziz, and his wife Najma also paid a visit – even getting stuck into making some salt dough.
LibraryLAB will tour around east London, coming to Dagenham Library and Valence Library in August. Go to bescience.org.uk to find out more.
