A travel agent and former Conservative council candidate who recently jumped ship to support Margaret Hodge’s Labour campaign, has opened his own clothes shop.
Shahidur Rahman, 42, has moved his holiday business into the back of Shah Enterprise, in Faircross Parade, Barking, to make way for a selection of Asian and western womenswear.
The store was opened by Barking and Dagenham council leader Cllr Darren Rodwell on Friday, May 1, and Shahidur insists it will benifit the community, while helping him adapt to the changing trends in the travel industry.
“Most people book their holidays online now, so the demand for travel agents is declining, especially the younger generation,” he said.
“I love helping people, and the new shop gives people an alternative to Green Street or Old Street – it’s something new for Barking and good news for the area.”
