Government officials arrest two Indian nationals from Barking recycling plant on suspicion of immigration offences

This was a joint operation involving the police and the fire brigade.

Last week the authority carried out a number of operations in London as part of a week of action - but their head of UK operations believes they have “barely scratched the surface.”

A construction company is being investigated for paying workers in Tottenham below the minimum wage.

A hotel in the city centre is also suspected of not paying cleaners in line with minimum wage requirements.

GLAA head of UK Operations Ian Waterfield said: “As an intelligence-led organisation we need the public to provide us with information about labour abuse, financial and physical exploitation and possible modern slavery offences.”
