Budding inventors have been invited to send in their prototypes for a chance to see them turned into actual tools.

Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas is launching the We Made It competition in his constituency. The scheme, which encourages young people to consider manufacturing as a career option, invites anyone aged between 13 and 16 to submit their ideas for the gadgets, gizmos, toys and tools they would like to see on the market.

The entries will be judged by Mr Cruddas and the winner will be entered into a nation-wide competition judged by organisations including Boeing and the Manufacturing Institute.

He said: “Britain desperately needs more young people aspiring to high-level manufacturing jobs and to gain a better understanding of how the industry and businesses involved in it actually work.”
