The WHSmith store at Barking station will be closing next week.

The shop, which sells a range of items including books, newspapers and snacks, will be shutting its doors for the final time on Friday, November 16.

A WHSmith spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that the WHSmith store in Barking Station will be closing on November 16 due to the redevelopment of the railway station.”

The Post understands that some of the proposals for the railway station include building escalators to take commuters to the station platforms as well as coffee stalls outside the building, and the aim of bringing in a number of big retail stores to the area.

Other traders in the station will also have to close while the station is being redevloped and c2c said they will be offered the chance to bid for a new unit once the design has been finalised.
