Rail operator c2c is to roll out new carriages with more seats and standing room – but it will take up to four years.
With more than 900 seats the new carriages offers 20 per cent more than the company’s current trains and will be in full use by the end of 2021,
The 10-carriage trains also boasts 15pc more standing room, air-conditioning, wifi, plug sockets and three toilets onboard.
The new trains were planned to be rolled out by 2024 but following the acquisition of c2c by Italian rail giants Trenitalia the date has been brought forward.
c2c managing director Julian Drury said: “This is excellent news for c2c customers. We have accelerated our original plans for new trains because of the scale of growth planned in the boom areas of south Essex and east London, and these British-built trains will help ensure c2c is playing its part in unlocking those benefits to the economy.”
