THE HAMMERS under-18 Academy team returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Norwich City on Saturday.

Cristian Montano netted a brace, including a spectacular solo effort, with Nicky Barrett grabbing his second of the season to complete the scoring.

With a visit to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday, Academy director Tony Carr was delighted with the morale-boosting result: "It was a good win in heavy conditions and, in the first half, we played as well as we have done all season."

"In the second period, Norwich came out and had a little go at us and pulled a goal back," Carr added, "But Montano scored a solo goal straight from our kick-off - it really was a terrific goal."

The visitors had a player sent off with 20 minutes left to play when Robert Hall was brought down with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Carr concluded: "I'm really pleased with the result, and it puts us in a good frame of mind for Wednesday's game."

West Ham: Loveday, Modelski (Smith), Craig, Sanchez, Brown (Driver), Barrett (Subuola), Moncur, Wearen, Purdy, Mantano, Hall.
