The 27-year-old was attacked alongside his dad Paul Hayden, 46, in Gibbfield Close, Chadwell Heath at about 1.25am on Tuesday.

Ricky was rushed to hospital with “life-changing” injuries but was died later that night.

Lots of cards and flowers were left by his home last night with the name Ricky spelt out with tealights.

Charlotte Jones was one the hundreds of people in attendance at the vigil.

She has been friends with the Romford doorman for more than a decade and says family and friends are “heartbroken” about his death.

“I have lots of amazing memories growing up with him – we all do,” she said.

“He honestly touched so many hearts and it showed last night with the amount of people who came to light a candle for him.

“So many people loved him, which is why it broke our hearts to lay flowers when he didn’t deserve this.”

Dozens of red lanterns were also released to cheers from the crowd as they celebrated Ricky’s life.

Charlotte added: “We all cried a lot, but giggled at the good times we had with him.

“Rick would have been laughing at us trying to light those lanterns last night, we’re going to miss him a lot.

“His cheeky smile and fluorescent dress sense will never be forgotten.”

Ricky’s dad, Paul, who has worked for ITV’s security team remains in hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A JustGiving page set up by a friend to raise money for Ricky’s funeral has now raised £5,000.
