Car explosion Texaco Garage, Ripple Road, Barking


A woman had a lucky escape after her car went up in flames at petrol station in Barking.

The woman was in the driver’s seat of the car at Texaco service Station in Ripple Road, Barking, when it is thought an explosion went off in the vehicle, at around midday today.

According Texaco staff member, Bala Chandar, the woman managed to escape before flames completely destroyed the car.

Fire fighters put out the blaze shortly after. No one was hurt in the accident.

Mr Chandar said: “Thankfully everyone is OK. It could have been a lot worse.”

A witness, who was at the nearby Goresbrook Leisure Centre, told the Post: “I heard this almighty bang and saw lots of black smoke. A fire engine turned up soon after.”
