Midfielder says players are disappointed at how they conceded in Carlisle

Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Ashley Chambers says the team are bitterly upset their unbeaten run came to a halt at Carlisle United.

Heading into the match, Daggers were on a four-game unbeaten run and looked well place to continue that streak when Christian Doidge nodded in the opener after 11 minutes.

But the Cumbrians hit back in the 37th minute through Angelo Balanta before former Leyton Orient striker Jabo Ibehre struck the winner eight minutes after the break.

Dagenham could have defended both goals better and Chambers believes the team were the architects of their own downfall once again

“We’re very disappointed with the outcome of the game. We felt we had good control in the first half,” he said.

“We felt it was a good away performance but it was two sloppy goals on our behalf. They haven’t had to work for them again and it’s becoming a recurring theme.

“It’s something we’re working hard on. If we can eradicate it, then certainly we can string another few unbeaten runs together.”

Doidge scored the opener after latching on to a Joe Widdowson cross and almost turned in an Ashley Hemmings ball at the back post in the second half.

It follows on from last week at Northampton Town, where Matt McClure also scored from a cross into the box.

And Chambers, as a winger, admits it is fantastic to have strikers in the team who are willing to get on the end of crosses.

Chambers added: “Crossing is something we’ve been looking at with Christian and Matt in there. We want to get as many crosses in there as possible.

“Unfortunately the quality wasn’t fantastic but there was one occasion when Joe put a great ball in and Christian’s finished it off.

“It’s good to know once you beat your man and put the cross in, there’s going to be someone on the end of it.”
