Cheap eats for older people in summer deals across Barking and Dagenham

After a life-time of work and raising families, older people are due a break or two.
Now they can enjoy 27 as local food businesses from across Barking and Dagenham are offering discounts to OAPs to encourage them to get out and socialise this summer.
The venues, which include cafes, restaurants, pie and mash shops and fish and chip shops are being promoted by the council which has created a map showing where each of them is located in the borough to make them easy to find.
Cabinet member for adult services, Cllr Linda Reason, said: “Many older people may have their meals delivered, or are used to visiting the same local supermarket and cooking the same meals all year round.
“During the summer it can make such a lovely change to perhaps meet up with a friend and go for a nice lunch or dinner.
“But cost can be a real issue for many older people, so I am pleased to see a number of local businesses take this into consideration and offer a discount.”
Ages eligible for the discount vary at each venue. Visit lbbd.gov.uk/olderpeopleoffer to see a map of those included.
