FORMER West Ham skipper Christian Dailly has returned to London to sign a one-year contract with Charlton Athletic.

The 35-year-old Scottish international, who played nearly 200 games in claret and blue between 2001 and 2008, was released by Scottish champions Rangers in the summer.

But after one day of training, and one friendly for Phil Parkinson's team, he was offered a deal which he was eager to accept.

"After leaving Rangers, I'd been training with my old club West Ham just to keep my fitness levels up and keep myself ticking over," said the former Recorder columnist.

"I'd had a few offers from various clubs, and I was weighing up what I was going to do when Phil Parkinson rang me and asked if I fancied coming to Charlton.

"I'm pleased to sign a deal, because it is a talented squad here with some good young players.
