WEST HAM striker Carlton Cole almost turned his first England cap into a goalscoring one in Spain last week.
The 25-year-old marksman came on as a second half substitute against the European champions and almost put England back into the game when he received a superb ball from David Beckham to round the keeper and shoot goalward, only for his effort to be cleared off the line.
"I was disappointed not to score, but I got my 15-minute cameo and it was really good for me to be involved in the England set-up," said Cole, who refused to swap his shirt at the end of the game, instead keeping it as a memento.
Robert Green and Matty Upson appeared for the second 45 minutes in the 2-0 defeat.
