More than 250 people attended an event celebrating female empowerment in Dagenham on Saturday.

The All Women’s Network event, which was held at CU London, aimed to encourage women to stand in elections, to help teach skills important for leadership roles and create support networks for women living in the borough.

Organiser Hannah Kupoluyi said: “This year’s conference was aimed at helping women and students feel empowered and take the lead.”

The event was attended by Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas, the mayor of Barking and Dagenham Cllr Sanchia Alasia, as well as other councillors and business figures.

Awards were also given out to individuals and businesses for the contributions they make to life Barking and Dagenham.

Recipients included Laura Iosifescu, who runs the Laura I gallery in Barking and won the Arts Award, while Barking-based anti-child poverty campaigners Mums on a Mission won a community impact award.
