Barking and Dagenham Council has pledged to support pensioners affected by the Southern Cross closure plans.

The Labour council said it had written to 50 OAPs facing an uncertain future at Alexander Court nursing home in Rainham Road South, Dagenham, run by Southern Cross.

The embattled group stopped trading in its shares as it unveiled plans to shut on Monday.
