COUNCIL tax bills will be frozen this week.

Barking and Dagenham Council will impose a freeze at an assembly meeting on Wednesday evening, as the Recorder exclusively revealed in January.

Average band D residents will continue to fork out �110 a month, but nearly two thirds of the 120,000 or so Barking and Dagenham taxpayers in the lower band C bracket will pay just �98.

Council deputy leader Labour Cllr Liam Smith - chairman of Barking and Dagenham recession taskforce - said: "By freezing council tax levels we will hopefully make things a little easier for the residents of Barking and Dagenham.
