A man who was just trying to sell his old mobile had a terrifying ordeal last night.

The victim, a man in his 40s, had arranged for the seller to visit him in Downing Road yesterday to pick up the phone - but instead of handing over the cash, he squirted a corrosive substance in his face before snatching the mobile and running out of the house.

Police, London Ambulance Service and the Fire Brigade were called at around 7.50pm and the man was taken to hospital for treatment.

He is injured but his condition isn’t life-threatening.

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
