A Romford man has been jailed for beating to death a Dagenham grandfather in a row over a set of keys.
Clemuth Roberts, 58, died from blunt force trauma to the head after being attacked in Stanhope Road, Dagenham, in December 2016.
Ben Harper, 21, was today sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter at the Old Bailey.
He was also given an extended sentence of five years on licence.
Harper had denied murder but offered the guilty plea to manslaughter at a previous hearing last month, which the prosecution accepted.
“No sentence will take away our daily pain of losing a loved father and grandfather,” said Clemuth’s daughter, Simone.
“We are the ones living with a life sentence.”
A 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl arrested on suspicion of Clemuth’s murder were later released with no further action.
