A 15-year-old boy was arrested after police chased two suspected thieves on foot through streets and gardens in Dagenham.

Officers ran after the pair at 11.13am yesterday and a police helicopter hovered above after reports that a scooter had been stolen in Marsh Green Road.

The pursuit went through Broad Street, Heathway, Arnold Road, Coombes Road and Digby Gardens, including a number of gardens.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the theft of a motor vehicle, while a second suspect remains wanted for questioning by police.

William Frost, of Jack Jones Way, said: “I’ve never seen so many police before,” he told the Post. “Some of them were going through the back gardens of the houses here with their dogs and looking in people’s sheds.”
