An 18-year-old man has been jailed for carrying a knife through Barking station.
Police officers saw Alexandru Aldea enter the station on March 6, and then subsequently back out when he saw the officers.
This prompted the police to question him.
Aldea, of Crescent Road, Dagenham, was “nervous and evasive” when answering the questions, and then tried to run away.
The officers then restrained Aldea and searched him, finding a large serrated knife.
During the search Aldea kicked an officer before injuring the hand of another.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, two counts of assaulting a constable and theft of a driving licence.
He pleaded guilty at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison.
Sgt Kamal Khan said: “I am pleased this man was brought in front of the courts, where justice was delivered swiftly, and he is now off the streets.
“I hope this serves as a deterrent and a warning to others – carrying a knife will result in a prison sentence.”
