A man who drove on the A127 at more than twice the legal drink-drive limit must carry out 120 hours’ unpaid work, a court ordered.

Robert Beattie, of Ilchester Road, Dagenham, pleaded guilty to driving the Volkswagen Caddy on January 26, when a breath test found he had 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes per 100ml.

Beattie must also pay £85 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge, Barkingside magistrates ordered on February 17, and has been banned from the roads for two years.

He can cut his disqualification by six months if he completes a government-approved course.
