Operation Sunrise on the Marks Gate Estate, Chadwell Heath, is a joint initiative not only targeting problem youths but offering a range of activities to revive the area’s community spirit, creating at least two new youth clubs for youngsters.
Police, the council and housing associations will crack down on offenders, remove rubbish from the streets, carry out safety checks on properties and character reviews on people who cause a nuisance.
Early last year, the subway was the scene setter for Harry Brown – a movie starring Michael Caine as a pensioner who turns vigilante when his friend is beaten to death by a gang of youths in a subway.
