Fake clothes estimated to be worth up to £80,000 have been seized from Dagenham Sunday Market.
Around 800 polo shirts, shorts and sunglasses – many imitating brands such as Ralph Lauren, Georgio Armani and Ray Ban – were found during an investigation by trading standards officers on Sunday, May 17.
Councillor Laila Butt, cabinet member for crime and enforcement, said: “Fake goods are not just a fashion crime, they undermine genuine traders and rip off people who are often struggling to make ends meet with the lure of cheap goods.
“Counterfeit goods are often shoddily made and leave the buyer with no chance of a refund and out of pocket.”
