Trying to steal sandwiches from children’s lunchboxes at a Dagenham primary school landed a man in court.

Audrius Tamulionis, of Kenneth Road, Chadwell Heath, admitted to entering Dorothy Barley School, in Ivinghoe Road, on Friday, February 7, while drunk and “desperate for food”.

The 31-year-old told the court he had been so inebriated he “did not know what [he] was doing”. Tamulionis spoke through a Lithuanian interpreter at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 6, representing himself as he claimed not to have had sufficient time to employ a solicitor.

He is banned from applying for travel documents or leaving the UK and will be sentenced at a later date, having been granted conditional bail.

District Judge Gary Lucie said: “If you breach these conditions there will be further significant trouble.”
