A 35-year-old man who pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis told a court that he assaulted a police officer in the course of his duty.
Lee Newton of Earlsdown House, Barking admitted possessing a quantity of cannabis on November 19 2013 in Romsey Road, Dagenham. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting Pc Bradley Newton on the same date in the execution of his duty.
Lee Newton was fined £75 for possessing the class B drug, told to pay £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He was fined an additional £75 for assaulting the police officer.
Magistrates sitting at Barkingside Magistrates Court said they took into account Lee Newton’s guilty pleas when passing sentence on January 6.
