The number of crimes committed on buses in Barking and Dagenham has risen by 5.9 per cent.
Figures released by Transport for London on Wednesday show that in 2014/15, there were 323 crimes reported, up from 305 in the previous financial year.
The category of crime with the most reports was theft and handling, with 139 instances, while there were 98 reports of violence against the person.
The figures also include 17 sexual offences, 27 instances of criminal damage and 30 counts of robbery.
Despite the rise, only six other boroughs saw fewer crimes committed over the year, while across the capital the figure is down 5.7pc.
There has also been a reduction in crime on the Underground, the DLR and the Overground in the past year.
Det Chief Supt Paul Rickett, of the roads and transport policing command, said: “These fantastic crime reduction figures are down to robust policing, quality engagement with the public and strong partnership working.
“However, any crime is one too many and together we will continue to safeguard the travelling public from criminals operating on London’s transport network.”
