CCTV cameras in Barking town centre have helped police catch a man who was assaulting someone in Station Parade.
In the early hours of May 1 the CCTV operators spotted that an assault was taking place in Station Parade and contacted the police.
Three-and-a-half minutes later, two police cars arrived at the scene.
The suspect had fled Station Parade, but the CCTV operators were able to use other cameras to track his movements and he was arrested half a mile away. He has since been charged with causing Actual Bodily Harm (ABH).
Jonathon Toy, operational director for Enforcement Services, said: “We are determined to clamp down on crime and other anti-social behaviour in our borough and hope this will send a strong message that our CCTV cameras will catch anyone who is breaking the law and we will work with the authorities for the strongest possible action.”
