THE CHILDREN’S Commissioner of England, Dr Maggie Atkinson, spoke to young people about issues important to them.
Dr Atkinson met Barking and Dagenham’s Young People’s Safety Group at Jo Richardson School, in Gale Street, Dagenham to hear their views on a whole host of subjects, including the portrayal of young people in the media, issues around school uniform and access to free school meals.
As well as the talk, two interactive workshops took place, one on domestic violence and one on conflict resolution.
The Young People’s Safety Group, made up of youngsters, was formed by the council to ensure the views of youngsters regarding safety and safeguarding are heard by adults making decisions that affect them.
Dr Atkinson said: “It was great to see young people in Barking and Dagenham consulted about such important areas and services benefit from this too.”
