Dagenham & Redbridge FC are set to receive £11,000 from the Home Office to help tackle extremism through sport.
Today Dagenham and Redbridge’s Community Trust, the Daggers charity, was earmarked as one of ten sport projects to receive funding from the Home Office’s Building a Stronger Britain Together programme.
The club will run an eight-week course offering young people the opportunity to get involved in sport and activities allowing them to hear stories from people who have been affected by extremism.
Baroness Williams, minister for countering extremism, said: “The work Dagenham & Redbridge are doing to bring people from a wide range of backgrounds together shows sport has a uniquely powerful way to break down barriers and provide a common platform to unite us all.”
Dennis Lawrence, community trust manager at Daggers’ charity, said: “We are proud to play a key role in the local community and this funding will help us to continue and expand our work.”
