A man who has admitted to producing cannabis will face an inquiry to determine whether it was for personal or commercial use.

James Da Silva, 42, of Torrance Close, Hornchurch, was found to be growing 30 cannabis plants at a property in Grantham Gardens, Dagenham on April 18.

At Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today (20) he pleaded guilty but there was disagreement over the category of the offence.

The severity of his sentence depends on whether it is classed as category three - set at 28 plants or under which is considered personal use, or category two - over 28 plants which is seen as commercial use.

Da Silva was released on bail and will appear at Romford County Court on August 9 for a Newton hearing where a judge will hear from both defence and prosecution as to decide the appropriate sentence.
