A drug-fuelled driver who crashed his car after a high-speed police chase has been jailed for 19 months.

Izmir Senaj, 22, had snorted cocaine and drunk four brandy and cokes when he was spotted by officers driving through a red light.

As he tried to evade capture, Senaj raced through Barking at up to 45mph before ploughing his Vauxhall Vectra in two parked cars.

The driver, who was twice the legal drink limit, fled the scene but was eventually pinned down by a police officer.

Two of Senaj’s friends who were in the car with him were injured in the crash and needed hospital treatment, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

Judge Murray Shanks jailed Senaj on Monday and banned from the roads for the next four years.

He was sentenced to 16 months in custody plus an extra 12 weeks as he had previously been given a suspended sentence for driving while disqualified.

“You caused other motorists to take evasive action,” Judge Shanks said. “You caused injuries to your two passengers.

“One had a cut to the head, the other a bruised shoulder. You ran away and had to be chased.

Officers spotted Senaj on June 5 when he ran through a set of traffic lights on Curzon Crescent, Barking, despite it being at red for at least five seconds.

Daniel Cohen, defending, said Senaj had turned to drugs to cope with caring for his ill mother.

Senaj, of Victoria Avenue, East Ham, was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £100, deprived of his car and made to pay £180 costs.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, causing personal injury in an accident and driving while unfit to do so through drugs.
