Fake vodka was among £16,000 worth of counterfeit goods seized by trading standards officials in a pre-Christmas swoop.
Among the haul of bogus brands were 4,800 cigarettes, six bottles of Glen’s Vodka, 406 Ralph Lauren t-shirts, one bottle of Romanian Cognac and six pouches of Golden Virginia rolling tobacco.
Cllr Laila Butt, cabinet member for crime and enforcement, said: “Fake goods not only rip off shoppers, they can be massively dangerous too. With bogus booze you are never sure what’s in it – it could make you go blind.”
