Joel Adesina and friends went looking to “stab people up” on the night of his death, the Old Bailey heard today.

Stephen Kamlish QC told a friend of Joel’s who was with him moments before he was stabbed that the group was roaming Bethnal Green “tooled up” after an incident with a Vauxhall Astra.

He was questioning Joel’s friend, Adam Meragan, 19, while defending Lincoln Olaribigbe, 23, and Georgie Phillips, 21, who stand accused of the Dagenham 15-year-old’s murder in Padbury Court.

After revisiting CCTV footage in which Joel, Adam and their friends are narrowly missed by Olaribigbe’s Vauxhall Astra, he accused the group of being “fired-up” and following the car for a fight.

“You decided that night to go out looking for trouble didn’t you?” he said. “You were going around looking for this Astra to stab the occupants up weren’t you?

Mr Meragan claims to have been hiding from the alleged killers behind a car before his friend was dragged away and stabbed in Padbury Court.

But Mr Kamlish said this was a lie.

“You’ve lied to the jury about what happened in Padbury Court,” he said.“You were doing what’s called hiding in wait,” he said. “[You were] getting ready to attack him with your knife and Joel’s sword.”

Mr Kamlish QC also showed the jury the sword Joel was carrying in his waistband on the night and the knife favoured by Meragan, who had denied having a knife when police questioned him.

The sword, he told the court, is called a “bleeder” and was invented by the Israeli army.

“It’s known as a ‘bleeder’ because it’s got holes that allow blood to flow from the wounds and people die quicker,” he said.

He also accused the 19-yeear-old of inventing a sham story, questioning why at least three members of the group were carrying blades if they had planned to attend a party as they claimed.

“There wasn’t even a party that night was there?” he said. “That’s something you made up to explain your movements that night.”

The party was said to have been held in Hackney Road, which the friends were seen heading away from after they met.

Mr Meragan maintained the friends were headed for a party, but wanted to “stroll around” for a while.

Mr Meragan also admitted that Joel had met the group carrying two blades, giving one to a friend on the evening.

And it emerged that Joel was carrying a bag full of rocks on his back, on an evening in which the group threw missiles at the Vauxhall Astra and blue Mercedes driven by Joel’s alleged killers.

One of the objects thrown shattered a window of the blue Mercedes.

Phillips of Hood Walk, Romford, and Olaribigbe of Regents Court, Hoxton, deny murder.

The trial continues.
