A jury has been sent out to consider verdicts in the trial of three Pentonville inmates, including one from Barking, accused of murdering a fellow prisoner.
Jamal Mahmoud, 21, was allegedly stabbed to death on the landing of G Wing in October last year following a power struggle over the smuggling of contraband into the north London jail.
Basana Kimbembi, 35, formerly of Barking, and fellow prisoners Joshua Ratner, 27, and Robert Butler, 31, have denied murder and wounding Mr Mahmoud’s associate, Mohammed Ali, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
As he sent the 11-strong jury out at the Old Bailey, Judge Richard Marks QC said: “Please take as much time as you need over this.”
