An investigation into the shooting of the three London Bridge terrorists is complete, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has announced.

The police watchdog looked at the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Khuram Butt and Rachid Redouane, from Barking, and Youssef Zaghba, from Ilford.

All three were shot dead by armed police in June after killing eight people and injuring 48 by driving a van into pedestrians on London Bridge then stabbing people in restaurants and pubs in Borough Market.

The IPCC report also looked into the gunshot injury sustained by one member of the public as officers sought to bring the rampage to an end.

Police killed the trio just eight minutes after the first emergency call was made.

The investigation saw CCTV, mobile phone footage, ballistic evidence, witness statements and the relevant police procedures for terrorism incidents come under examination, and while most of the work was completed in just over a month after the incident, the IPCC had to wait for the final pathology reports detailing the cause of death of the terrorists.

All three attackers were found to have died from gunshot wounds.

IPCC deputy chair Sarah Green said: “This was a horrific attack and I want to extend my sympathies to every one affected by the awful events that unfolded that evening.

“While it was right that the IPCC investigated the circumstances of the fatal shootings, as we do with all such matters, at no point has any officer involved been under any suspicion of wrong doing and all eight officers were treated as witnesses throughout.”

The report has been provided to the City of London and Metropolitan Police as well as the Chief Coroner prior to the inquest for the men being held.

The IPCC will look to publish the investigation report into the shootings once the inquests of all those who died in the attack have been completed.

Following the attack, series of dawn raids took place across east London, with almost all of those arrested being released without charge within days.
