The longest service magistrate of Barking Court has thanked her family for their ongoing support after being made an MBE in the New Year Honours List.

Madhu Pathak dealt with cases at the magistrates’ court in East Street from 1976 until it closed in 2011.

The Romford GP remains a justice of the peace at other local courts and is also the secretary of the Barking & Havering Local Medical Committee.

She received an MBE for services to the local community last week.

She said: “I’m very pleased to know that I’ve been rewarded and I want to thank my family for their support.”
