A teenager who was believed to have been stabbed at Barking station last night was actually shot, police have revealed.

The victim was shot during an argument with two men on a Hammersmith and City line train just after 11.30pm.

Police initially believed he had been stabbed but once he was taken to hospital medics found a small bullet in his abdomen.

He is currently in a serious condition.

Det Chief Insp Sam Blackburn from British Transport Police, said: “This was a violent and rare attack which took place on a late night train out of London. Officers were on scene within minutes and we are working hard to identify and trace the men responsible for this assault.

“We understand that this was a frightening incident for passengers on the train and at the station, and would encourage anyone who witnessed the attack or the moments leading up to it to come forward and tell us what they saw.”
