The council and police teamed up to show residents how to cut the risk of burglary during the summer months.
They set up a crime scene at the Dagenham Town Show and used a uPVC door to demonstrate the best way of ensuring doors and windows are locked in the correct way.
Residents were also given advice about other ways they can avoid becoming victims of burglary and other crime and received crime prevention devices such as timed light switches and door alarms.
Cabinet member for crime, justice and communities, Cllr Jeanne Alexander, said: “uPVC doors make your home really safe, if locked properly, which is why events like this are so important.
“We will continue to work closely with the police and residents in the borough to remind them of this very important message.”
