Police investigating the death of Hasan Ozcan have appealed for anyone who saw a group loitering in Abbey Road shortly before the teenager was stabbed to come forward.
The 19-year-old, from Barking, was attacked shortly after 10pm on Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.55.
A post-morten gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds.
Det Chief Insp Larry Smith, who is leading the investigation, said: “A young man appears to have been deliberately singled out by what we understand was a group intent on causing him serious injury.
“The attack has had fatal consequences and it is vital that those out there with information contact police.
“I would like to appeal to anyone who saw a group of males loitering in the area on the evening of the attack. Were you there? Did you see the suspects arrive or leave the scene?”
Supt Sean Wilson added: “Officers have been out in force talking to local residents and providing reassurance to those in the community who have no doubt been shocked by this brutal attack on a young man.
“We will continue to provide a high visibility presence and plan to host drop in meetings to hear back from those in and around the area.”
Any witnesses or anyone with information should call the homicide and major crime command on 020 8345 3985. To remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
